Tazones and Villaviciosa will, for another year, be the settings for the Imperial Route of Charles V, one of the oldest athletic events in the Principality, which this year celebrates its 42 edition with El Gaitero as a sponsor. The race, organized by the Villaviciosa Athletics ClubEl Gaitero With the support of the Villaviciosa City Council and various collaborating entities, it will start from Tazones and end in Villaviciosa, following the route that connects two places closely linked to the history of the arrival of Charles V in Spain.

From Tazones to Villaviciosa

The Imperial Route Charles V takes its name from the route followed by the then Prince Charles of Ghent after landing in Tazones in 1517 and continuing to Villaviciosa, where he spent his first days in Spanish lands.

Today, more than five centuries later, this same route becomes the setting for a sporting event that combines history, scenery, and athletics. The hiking trail that connects the two towns covers approximately 11 kilometers and crosses diverse landscapes within the Villaviciosa municipality, with the estuary as one of its main features.
